An acknowledgement from the United Nations

Cimientos received a special consultative status granted by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a body in charge of coordinating the economic and social work of the United Nations (UN). This status is received by non governmental organizations specialized in a certain field, in the case of Cimientos it is education, and whose activities are covered by this body.

With this new consultative status, Cimientos has the opportunity to participate in the sessions, activities and events of ECOSOC and in the Secretariat of the United Nations and its many programs, funds and agencies. So as to perform its task, ECOSOC consults with representatives of the academic and business sectors and with non governmental organizations. ¨This recognition backs up one of our principles: focus our action on the improvement of the education process¨, said Agustina Cavanagh, Executive Director.

About ECOSOC. It is the organ that coordinates the economic and social work of the United Nations and of the institutions and specialized agencies that compose the system of the United Nations. It is composed by 54 elected members appointed by the General Assembly that hold office for three years. It is the central forum for the debate of international economic and social matters and for the creation of recommendations as regards policies directed to the Member States and the system of the United Nations. It is in charge of promoting higher standards of living, full employment and economic and social progress; identifying solutions to international economic, social and health problems; facilitating international cultural and educational cooperation; and encouraging universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
